A Few Wrinkles in Portrait Photography
Seminal writer Max Kozloff will present "a discussion of the interplay between performance and role in portrait photography, when they match in a situation, when they don't, and when they're independent of each other" Kozloff.
A photographer himself, Kozloff's interest in portraiture stems from his own practice and his belief that this genre is photography's central project.
New York based writer and photographer Max Kozloff is one of the leading photography critics working today. Formerly the editor of ARTFORUM, he won a Pulitzer Prize for critical writing, 1962-63. His writing on photography stretches over 40 years, including a collection of his essays in Lone Visions and Crowded Frames (1994) and books such as New Yorkers: As Seen by Magnum Photographers (2003); Saul Leiter (2008) and The Theatre of the Face: Portrait Photography Since 1900 (2008).
