The Photography Prize is presented by The Photographers’ Gallery. The annual award of £30,000 rewards a living photographer, of any nationality, who has made the most significant contribution to photography in Europe between 1 October and 30 September of the previous year.
Aims
The Prize seeks to acknowledge today’s leading international photographers and artists, and to raise the profile of photography. The aim of the Prize is also to increase audiences for contemporary photography and explore its role in society.
Nomination process
Each year The Photographers’ Gallery invites photography experts and professionals from across Europe to form the Academy. The Academy nominates living photographers, of any nationality, who have made outstanding contributions to photography that year.
From these four are chosen to exhibit their work at The Photographer’s Gallery, by an international, annually changing jury.
Half way through the exhibition, the jury meets again to select the winner who receives an award of £30,000. The other three finalists receive £3,000 each.
